Actors

Welcome to the Auditions page for our spring production of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, adapted for the stage by Ed Rutherford. For this reason, we do not recommend renting or watching the 1982 animated feature.

Auditions: February 15 & 16 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM

Auditions are open to adults and youth in grades 6-12, and will consist of cold readings from the script and movement. Please dress accordingly. The staging for this production involves stylized movement, particularly for the Unicorn. Scripts excerpts will available online in the near future. Please download the Audition Form and bring it with you to the auditions.

Callbacks: February 18 from 10:00 to 12:00 PM

Rehearsals: Mainly weekday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30, using actor conflicts to determine exactly when and how often.

Tech Week: April 22 through 26 from 5:00 to 9:00

Performances: April 27 & 29, May 4-6, 2012.

Participation Fee: $25 for both cast and crew. This includes a copy of the script, show t-shirt (or comparable show souvenir). Limited financial assistance is available. Please visit our financial aid page or call (540) 860-0608 for more information.

The Last Unicorn was originally a novel written by Peter S. Beagle. It has not gone out of print since first being published in 1968. In 1978, director Elizabeth Huddle adapted The Last Unicorn for the stage in a production for the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. In 1988, Ms. Huddle directed a production at the Intiman Playhouse in Seattle for which Mr. Beagle wrote the script, which was a musical presented in collaboration with Pacific Northwest Ballet. In the late 1990′s, director Lura Dolas (the original Molly Grue) staged a production for UC Berkeley and, and in fall 2009, a new adaptation was created by Ed Rutherford for the Promethean Theatre Ensemble in Chicago. This will be the World Premier of Mr. Rutherford’s youth theater adaptation.
