Kira Newman (Artistic Director, CEO, Instructor) began performing at the age of 3. Her first role was that of The Calico Cat in Pinnochio. Sadly, she spent most of her time watching the play from the front of the stage instead of acting and had to be moved back into place by other cast members.

At the age of 8, Kira was accepted into the Young Conservatory at the prestigious American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. A year later, she performed the role of The Butterfly in The Last Unicorn for their Plays-in-Progress Season. Kira made her professional debut with the California Shakespeare Festival at age 14 and continued to work with CSF for the next 5 years. Over the next two decades, Kira would appear on stages in California and Oregon, as well as in film, TV and radio.

Kira began her teaching career in 1985 with the Performing Artists Workshop in San Francisco, which brought theater training to inner city schools throughout the SF Bay Area. She was also the drama coordinator for Enrichment Plus After School Program in Oakland. She has also taught acting for stage and screen with John Robert Powers and Prodigy Management.

In 2005, Kira and her family, moved to Luray. In 2006, she made her Page County debut as Ruth in the PAL Players’ production of Blithe Spirit. During the summer of 2006, she was musical director for PAL’s first summer musical, Oliver!, and has directed the summer musical theater workshop since 2007.

In addition to her theatrical pursuits, Kira volunteers as “the story time lady” at the Page Luray Library and provides children’s musical entertainment as The Gus Bus Band with her husband, David.
