Winter Classes, Auditions, Sweeney Todd & More!
First, we would like to thank everyone involved with “Babes in Toyland” for a wonderful run. Over 200 people attended the show over 3 nights, and I have heard nothing but positive feedback.
If you have not already, I encourage you to obtain a copy of the January 25 Page News & Courier. There’s a wonderful photo essay by Rebecca Armstrong on the front of the Local section. Thank you, Rebecca! We hope to post a digitized scan of this, and the the previous article, in the near future.
In the meantime, here is a brief run down of what is coming up for BRYT. Full details will be published Monday morning, January 30th!
The 8-week Winter session of classes begins February 25th with a Student Showcase the week of April 30th. Scheduled classes include Creative Drama, Group Voice, Movement for Actors (this is not a dance class), and Scene Studies. If you have suggestions for other classes, feel free to email Kira.
Auditions for The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle will be held the week of February 13th. Auditions will involve reading from the script and we will have many resources available, prior to auditions, for those who are not familiar with the story.
We are also working on final details for our first field trip! On Sunday, February 19, we will be heading to JMU for a tour of the Forbes Center and the dress rehearsal of Sweeney Todd, by Stephen Sondheim. This trip is most appropriate for high school students do to it’s mature subject matter and disturbing/graphic violence. It is different and much longer than the movie. To learn more about Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, we recommend visiting Wikipedia.
Other things we are working on for the future are a 10-minute Play Festival in June, 3-week summer camp productions. Again, if you have suggestions, please let us know!
